BACKGROUND OF ORGANIZATION:
Shaiq network was established in Aug-20-1995, it working in the fields of Media health, engineering, education, Sport and production, and charity.
The organization is based in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, and has a second office in the United States where it operates the “Sharq Global” channel. The organization has achieved significant success in implementing projects aimed at community development, empowerment, welfare, and cultural promotion, with a focus on showcasing the authentic Afghan culture. Additionally, the team works diligently to assist newcomers in the U.S. in adapting to American culture through a range of programs.
The following are the major Achievements of the Shaiq network in the development of the community.
In 2005, a media establishment was founded, which included the construction of a four-story media center spanning 2000 square meters. This center served as the broadcasting hub for Sharq TV, Nargis Radio, member radios, and Shaiq newspaper, bringing all these media entities together under one roof.
In 2008, a groundbreaking milestone was achieved with the establishment of the first private TV station. This station boasted round-the-clock broadcasting, offering viewers uninterrupted access to a diverse range of programming. As a result, it quickly gained popularity and earned the distinction of having the highest viewership ratings in the area.
On August 20th, 2003, the establishment of Sharq radio took place in Jalalabad city, Afghanistan. This initiative was made possible through funding provided by USAID and was implemented by Internews. Sharq radio marked a significant milestone as the first local FM radio station in the Eastern Zone of Afghanistan.
On November 9th, 2007, Nargi’s Radio, a radio station dedicated to women, was established. To this day, it employs a team of 19 female staff members. All broadcasting programs produced by the station are specifically tailored for female audiences.
As part of our efforts to encourage artistic expression among young girls in the eastern region of Afghanistan (including Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar), we organized a poetry competition. Approximately 100 girls participated, submitting their poetry for consideration. In each province, three prizes were awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners. To commemorate their talent, all the poetry has been compiled and printed in the form of a book.
In response to the demands and needs of the community, we established a religious radio station named Member Radio on November 9, 2010. The primary focus of this station was to broadcast Islamic programs, with a mission to propagate and promote accurate and authentic teachings of Islam.
Currently, we are actively involved in training young individuals in various media-related disciplines. Our training programs cover areas such as photojournalism, print media, internet news, video editing, investigative journalism, media management, video camera shooting, film making, and more. Our aim is to nurture these fields and elevate their status within Afghanistan.

In the mid-2007, we provided training to over 250 young individuals in various fields of journalism and media production. The training programs covered disciplines such as photography, reporting, news broadcasting, audio production, and audio editing.
We recognized the shortage of skilled technicians in our media sectors and aimed to address this issue by offering opportunities to talented individuals. Through these training initiatives, we sought to equip aspiring professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the media industry.
* In 2005, a film called “Black Poison” was produced with the aim of raising awareness among the Afghan people. This film tackled important issues such as terrorism, drug addiction, and education problems. Recognizing the limited access to cinemas and television broadcasting, we took the initiative to distribute 20,000 copies of the film free of charge to the public. This effort was made to ensure that the message reached a wider audience and contributed to addressing these pressing issues in the absence of widespread cinema and TV availability.
In 2005, an exciting cricket tournament took place, featuring participation from 22 districts and the top 10 teams from Jalalabad city. The event proved to be a grand success, with numerous prizes awarded to the teams and a coveted gold cup presented to the winning team.
To facilitate the tournament, Shaiqnetwork, with the assistance of PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team) and the government, organized and provided all the necessary equipment and clothing. This collaborative effort ensured that the tournament ran smoothly and created an enjoyable experience for all the participants.
